| Born and raised in Birmingham, AL, Bernard Johnson was a classic case of the brilliant student bored with grade school. So when he wasn't sleeping in class, he was disturbing it. He tried to stay awake in college by majoring in engineering, but he just fell asleep and graduated. Whether it is chemistry 101, a fraternity beauty pageant, a university talent show, or even a church banquet, Bernard has a gift of making any crowd laugh. His brand of comedy is a soulful blend of personal experiences, unique observations, and obscure thoughts served on a griot platter. His career as an engineer in an industry of majority southern white males (age 50-years and up) carrying NRA membership cards just makes it better. His wife tries to hide his small collection of new vintage sport jerseys on Fridays when he insists, "Its Throwback Jersey Friday! That's what casual Friday is all about." He's constantly putting his son on punishment just so he can get the Xbox to himself. His infant daughter has learned the painful lesson of being bit in a game of "How Fast Can I Get My Hand Out of Daddy's Mouth?" And just when you thought that was enough, he has a Bible study class full of teenagers that he answers to on a weekly basis. When asked, "Do you swear or curse in your comedy routine?" BJ says, "Absolutely not. If you were held accountable by a group of teenagers living in the inner city like mine, the last thing you need is one of them hearing you curse." Bernard has performed all over the southeast and continues to expand across the region. He has shared a microphone with comics such as Roy Wood Jr., Thea Vidale, Ced Delaney, Rickey Smiley, C-Lo, G.R., Tony San Antonio, Finesse Mitchell, Etta May, Ralphie May, Lahna Turner, Shawn Lesser, Kevin Harris, Steve Brown, Ronnie Jordan, Tammy Pescatelli, Jimmie Roulette, Ricky Peardon, Troy Davis, Karen Mills, Pat Brown, Keith Alberstadt, Vinnie Copola, Reno Collier, Kid Dave Miller, and the list goes on. |
